I have been very clear over the years that I have always been more of an Apple person and prefer to use Apple’s computers. Partially this is because I was introduced to Apple early on in life. As a funny side note I discovered at the Henry Ford Museum in there 80’s display my very first computer (I suddenly feel old!):
Well after much debate and a lot of thought, I decided to follow the rabbit down the hole, and like Alice emerge into a whole new world. I have bought my first brand new computer and its (gasp) a HP laptop with Vista (yes the one in the new Microsoft Ad). My biggest motivation for buying it is the ability to play games with some speed, a high-end graphics card and a lovely 17” screen for playing movies & displaying photos.
Over the past month or so I have slowly managed to get the hang of using a double click mouse (this was fun in World of Warcraft), Vista and the other quirks of a PC. I am as my dad says a computer person but at work I just need to turn on my computer and go, need help call the service desk. At home my sister has taken quite a delight in having to show her big sister how to do something on the PC and has no patience for me when I get frustrated when something isn’t working. I have to say Apple has spoiled me with the “works directly out of the box and stays working” philosophy.
I have come a long way from my first Apple (marvel at the tiny green screen and 5.25” drive) and I have to say I am enjoying the challenge of learning the ins and outs of a new computer. I have so far not had to call in any favors with my more technically inclined friends. Although at the moment my sister has been wondering why my sound keeps turning off by itself and she has to restart my machine.
Like Alice in Wonderland I look forward to my new adventure.
